Turning Life’s Trials Into Treasures

Footprints.

The famous poem “Footprints” is one that helps us to see the good that results after bad happens; or, as it happens. We tend to see the circumstances and pain when tribulations occur in our lives. And we often dwell there. We fail to see the change that results. The positive movement that occurs is what should captivate us because it is where the riches lye. Let’s talk about turning life’s trials into treasures.

Reasons God Gives Us Trials

It is important that we understand why trials and tribulations exist first. Abwe is a missions agency that wrote a blog entitled, “10 Reasons God Entrusts Us With Trials. The post was so inspiring. I encourage you to go and read it. The basic outline is as follows:

  • Trials are part of God’s work.
  • They put God’s power on display.
  • Tribulations prepare me for service.
  • Trials Sanctify me.
  • They make me depend on God.
  • Tribulations show others that God is dependable.
  • Trials show us and others that that God is infinitely valuable.
  • They are an opportunity for reward.
  • Tribulations may be spiritual warfare.
  • Trials may be for discipline.

The Treasures That Come

One of the biggest trial and tribulation that I went though happened when my husband and I separated for seven years. It was a devastating time for me. My heart was broken and my faith seemed shattered. But, Just like in the poem, the Lord carried me. He brought me through it. That time became such an inspiration to my life because I gained so much from it.

  • An indescribable connection to God.
  • A stronger dependence on him.
  • Thankfulness that abounds.
  • Scripture that spoke to me.
  • A heightened compassion and empathy for those who are hurting.
  • The need to serve others.
  • New and amazing friendships.
  • Truth where I had once believed lies.
  • Some hard earned wisdom given by God where I had once been foolish

WHERE CAN THE TREASURES BE FOUND?

Now that we know trials will come and tribulations will happen, where can we find the treasure?

  • Reading the Bible and knowing the scriptures. In the word.
  • Where the Lord is. In his presence.
  • Community in the body of Christ.
  • Where gratitude and music preside. In worship.
  • In obedience.
