Photographing Halloween carnival fun is one of my favorite things to do as a professional photographer. I love organized parties. Anything my kids attend that includes throwing pies at teachers, playing little games for treats, and the winning of stuffed animals and live gold fish is a night out I will never miss. I love my kids. I enjoy taking pictures of them. Photographing Halloween carnival fun is the icing on the already delicious cake of a school night out for me.
Lighting is key
The complicated part about carnival night is that it occurs at night. In October. When it is dark. As a photographer, light is important and, in this situation, finding good light is key. Often, the school can offer some electricity for plugging in my studio lights and setting up my photo printer so I can offer on the spot photos to my subjects. Other times, it takes a little finagling to get the right lighting.
Letting the kids pose themselves is a significant aspect of carnival photography.
I never pose the kids. I let them decide where they want to stand and how they want to present themselves to the camera. I guess you could say that the shots are somewhat candid.
Costumes are a giant component of the experience.
It works best when we let kids be who they are and dress in what makes them happy. A great deal of the time, the children come in their own costumes. If they are not already in an ensemble, I provide several different choices. Some choose to mix and match.
Conclusion
Photographing Halloween carnival fun is one of my favorite things to do as a professional photographer. Lighting is the hardest part but it always works out great. I love to let the kids be candid and show their own personal character for their shots. Providing costumes makes it so that no one misses out on the fun.
