Every new year brings about the desire to change certain things about ourselves. Maybe this year the decision to stop smoking, or spend more time with family has been made. Weight loss is always a top choice. The truth is that resolutions never really work. Visit a gym in the first few weeks of a new year and you will find them packed with those hoping to get fit. Those same establishments will not be as busy after the first few months of a new year.
Yes, it is important to think about the alterations you want to make in life. It is equally significant that you say those changes out loud and write them down. However, that is not where it ends. If you want a new year – a new you, you need to take it even further.
The Resolution Procedure
One
Find out what you want to change. Stop smoking, spend more time with family, lose weight, get fit, etcetera. All resolutions begin with deciding what habits you want to change.
Two
Say those resolutions out loud. Voicing the desire to stop bad habits, or begin good ones, is key to making the changes.
Three
Write them down. It is not enough to merely speak the changes you wish to make, you need to write them down.
Four
Take the words you just wrote and put them into goals you wish to achieve. Setting, planning, and achieving goals is extremely satisfying.
Five
Get out there and start working towards accomplishing all those goals you just set.
I speak From Experience
You need to know that I see many things in me that need to change. Over the past several years, I have battled depression. I was given medication for it at one point too. Over time, I took a long, hard look at myself and decided to fight for my life.
I followed the steps I mentioned above and it has slowly changed my life.
My spirituality has been placed back on top of all the things that move me to be who I am today. Personal Development has become a huge part of my life. My family always comes before work and I only do work I believe in.
My Conclusion
By themselves, resolutions do not work. Follow the steps and build a better version of yourself.
This year, my goals revolve around family and weight loss. My hope is to take you on this journey with me. May we grow together.
