The fourth of July
The day of Independence. The day of remembrance. A day spent with family. A day spent reflecting on overcoming hardships with Christ at the helm. The fourth of July is the one time Americans celebrate together. It doesn’t matter our differences.
It is an amazing experience for me because I take my children to the local park to watch fireworks every year. We go early so that we can walk around, listen to music, and taste from the local eateries. I watch my kids run around the play areas with other little ones, smiling from ear to ear. They don’t see color, race, creed. The food we eat is from various cultures, and it is delicious. I love the Fourth of July.
We come together as one
There is a sense of comradery. It is like we have all been through the same tragedy and it brings us together. As if, for one day, we are all family. We are all here because of the men and women that have fought for our freedom to do so, and we all know this.
There is this special time when the sun goes down
Everyone goes to sit with their families, and the sky lights up with fireworks. Everyone waits and listens. There is silence among the people. Then, like thunder and lightning, the booms and pounds explode the park, and colors fill the air in front of you. Children are amazed. My two-year old yells for me to hold her up so she can see. She laughs, she claps, and she screams, “mommy look at the fire.” My heart is filled with joy as I look at my kids.
Then the song comes on
You all know the song, “God Bless The USA” by Lee Greenwood. Every single year, I cry my eyes out while it plays. The words raise goose bumps on my skin. My eyes are drawn up to the heavens, I watch the fireworks and I thank the Lord that his people were able to come together another year and be good to one another.
Happy Fourth of July
and God bless you all!
