National Chili Day
In honor of National Chili day, I decided to make my home-made chili and cornbread. Over the years, I have added ingredients that are specific to those that my family loves. Here is a chili recipe to be enjoyed by all.
Ingredients:
- 2 Pounds of Ground Beef
- 16 Ounces of Tomato Sauce
- 1 Can each of Pinto, Black, and Kidney Beans
- A Can of Corn
- 2 Cans of Black Olives
- chili pepper
- paprika
- basil
- cumin
- flour
- garlic
- onion
- pepper
- salt
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- Sour Cream
- Hot Sauce.
- Cornbread Ingredients to create from scratch, or a box that you add a few things to will do just fine.
How To Make A Chili Recipe:
- Place the ground beef in a stock pot and cook it. Drain any grease.
- Add in the tomato sauce.
- Place the Red, Black, and Pinto beans into the pot.
- Add in your spices – to your taste.
- I put the black olives and corn in.
- Lower your heat, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes.
- While the beef cooks; mix up my cornbread, and get it in the oven. As the chili is cooking and the cornbread is baking, you have twenty minutes to relax. The result of letting everything cook together, is that it is all done at the same time.
- My family loves to have a bowl of chili topped off with sour cream and cheddar cheese. I put a little slice of cornbread right on the side.
How A Chili Recipe has changed over the years:
I began by making my chili with the ground beef and beans. The black olives and corn have been slowly added over time. Simplicity was best for me in my younger years. I have grown a little more complex in many respects, cooking included. There has always been the question about whether or not beans should be added to a chili recipe. I think there should be so they have always been present in my chili.
Conclusion to A Chili Recipe:
National Chili day is celebrated best with a warm bowl of yummy chili, covered in cheese and sour cream. Place a slice of cornbread alongside it for best results..
