7 Days of Gratitude: Day 3: Thomas

Baby Thomas (life-with-mandee.com)

At times, being a mom is the most challenging character I play in life.  I have my daughter card, my sister t-shirt, my wife tiara, my estranged wife hat, and my mommy cape.  Among others.  On any given day you will see me engaging in a vast series of occupations as a mom.  A cook, a maid, a driver, a therapist, a launderer, a nurse, an educator.  The list goes on and on.  The fact of the matter is, I love being a mom and I would not change anything about my job as a person raising these six amazing humans.  Today, I want to talk about my son Thomas.

7 Days of Gratitude:  Day 3:  Thomas

Pregnancy felt different this time.  New cravings emerged, migraines became a daily hardship, and I struggled a bit acclimating to life pregnant while caring for two baby girls of three and 1 year old.  But, bringing up respectful, loving, confident children was and is important to me.  So, I rose to the challenge.

This one is a boy.

Finding out that baby number three was a boy gave me both great joy and scared me out of my mind.  I know nothing about raising the male of the species.  The question of circumcision versus no circumcision was brought up at several visits to the doctors.  I started worrying about what it would man to have a baby boy in my life.  How would I potty train him?  And yet, my heart was so full of happiness.  One of the greatest blessings in life is having children.  And here I was having three.

The day of his arrival

Labor for me has always been induced.  For one reason or another, I have never gone into full labor or had my water break all on its own.  The birth of Thomas was no different.  I had gone into the hospital as planned.  I had been feeling intermittent pains but nothing was significant.  I was hooked up to fluids through and Intravenous catheter and all the monitors were placed on myself and our son.  The doctor came in to make sure everything was a go and the induction drugs were started.  Several hours later, too many to discuss, Thomas came into the world.

He was amazing.  His little feet and tiny hands were mesmerizing.  I could not keep myself from loving on him just as I had his two sisters before him.

Thomas Now.

He is one of the sweetest boys I have ever known.  He is always helpful and kind.  He is talented in music and art.  He loves to paint and does it very well.  He also plays the viola and electric guitar.  Don’t get me wrong, he has his moments.  He can throw a tantrum with the best of them and disregard a persons feelings in his words at times.  But, for the most part, he is a good kid and someday he will be a great man.
