No October is complete without the spellbinding musical goodness of Hocus Pocus. Follow three witches as they are brought back from the dead to reek havoc on a modern day in the nineteen ninety’s. They sing, dance, fly around on brooms, and cast spells; attempting to draw the life out of all the children of the land so that they can remain alive. A talking cat and three children are the only ones to stop them. In order to see if they do, you have to watch the movie.

Corpse Bride

A stop-motion animated musical fantasy film. Opens to the arranged marriage of a fish merchants son and the abused and unloved daughter of impoverished aristocrats. The two youngsters are instantly in love but, the rehearsal goes array when Victor (the son) forgets the words and sets the lady’s dress on fire. He runs into the forest and practices his vows with a tree. He places the ring on the root of the tree; which turns out to be the finger of a dead woman named Emily. Emily takes Victor to the land of the dead where he learns of her true identity. Wanting to get back to Victoria (the daughter) and marry her, Victor tricks Emily so that she will take him to the land of the living. In the meantime, Victoria’s parents learn of Victors abandonment of their daughter and betroth her to another who turns out to be Emily’s murderer. Do Victoria and Victor end up together? You have to watch the movie to find out.

Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn rival over the affections of one man, played by Bruce Willis. They both drink a magic potion that promises eternal youth. They are told that they must disappear from the public eye within ten years and they are urged to take good care of their bodies. The side effects of the potion turn out to be disastrous. Madeline (Meryl) steals Helen’s (Goldie’s) fiancé. Years later, Helen (whom has already taken the potion) convinces him to kill Madeline so that they can be together. He pushes Madeline down the stairs and she is pronounced dead at the Hospital because she has already taken the potion. Fights ensue and Madeline shoots Helen with a shotgun. They all realize Helen has taken the potion when she rises up with a hole in her abdomen. How does this sordid tale end? You have to watch to find out.

A little music. A lot of drama. I bit of horror. Fade to Mushnik’s Flow Shop located on skid row. The lack of customers convinces the owner to shut the place down. But, Audrey urges Mr. Mushnik to display Seymour’s exotic plant purchased during a solar eclipse. It attracts attention but, soon the plant starts to wither and is near death. Seymour pricks his finger and the plant starts to drink his blood. It thrives and grows when consuming human blood. Seymour is in love with Audrey and has named the plant Audrey II. He asks her out but, she refuses because she is dating a dentist who is abusive to her. The plant begins growing and is taking over the store and he now needs more human blood to stay alive. The plant convinces Seymour to kill Audrey’s evil dentist boyfriend in order to save Audrey and feed Audrey II. To find out how it ends, watch the movie.

The fifth and sixth movies on my list of the top 10 movies to watch this October are Ghostbusters I and II. Dive into paranormal activity in a fun and somewhat comedic way. There is terror, drama, slime, ghosts, and even a love story or two. Both movies are unique even though the story line is the same. Rid the streets of New York of ghosts. They are two must see movies.

A story of love for two young witches and the mishaps that occur when you mix magic with the heart. Sisters embark on their stories very differently. The one that is careful and cautious ends up losing her love and the father of her children because he was not really her person. The other sister meets a man and passion ensues so she up and leaves with him. He ends up being abusive and mean. She goes home and he follows her there. What happens brings law enforcement to their door. To find out what happens next, watch the movie.

A loving married couple are fixing up their house and enjoying their day. They head out to pick up some supplies and end up going off a bridge to their death. Back in their home, strange people are moving in. They read a book about the dead and are taken through a door and told they are dead. Told about how they can scare the people away by haunting them but, not the way they had been trying to. They take a liking to the teenage girl that moves in and they actually become friends with her. What does it do to the rest of the family, watch the movie and find out.
